Viewfield in a view

I have struggled to migrate from a version of viewfield that had been hacked to provide views-per-content-type (i.e. "force default") to the new version of viewfield.

If anybody needs some horrid scripts that kind-of-seem-to-work - let me know.

Meanwhile - I've hit a snag.

I now have my viewfield showing on my node (good). But, when I select that viewfield for display in a view - I get nothing.
Maybe this is related to the bug:

Of course, I've tried this with no funky-scary scripts - just a plain old node, a plain old view, a viewfield, and a view.....

BTW, if you set the view to display full nodes, you see the full node, including the viewfield (of course).... no problem there.

I'm sure this is supposed to work - so I'm sure I'm not doing something right... can somebody help?
