If when creating content a node object is past, the system will display warnings, and execute additional code.

I'm a little worried that this behavior could bork up #249716: Internationalization i18n, which was the issue that the if ($conf) logic was originally added for, but we'll see.

err, so, to be clear - committed, but with some somewhat hacky extra logic to be as sure as possible that we're preserving the value of the changes made in that issue.
