In D7, you could make 1 display, for example, with fields: title, description, image.
And many product types, for example, trousers, shoes.
When creating the display, there was a choice of the type of product.

Is it possible on commerce2?
Or is it now necessary to create a product type (display) for each product variation types?
It turns out a little inconvenient, if I always have the same fields in the product type ...

Not possible.

Pairing product types and variation types allowed us to skip having a variation type selector on the product add/edit form, just like in Kickstart. As you can see, it has its downsides, but that's the tradeoff we chose to make.

Now have to create +100500 the same product types?

bojanz’s picture

Correct, if you have 100500 variation types.

Could this be reopened?

Once #2901939: Move the variations form to its own tab next to (Product) Edit is in, choosing different variation types when creating them would no longer be as much of an UX hurdle.

I feel like this is worth re-opening based on #9. The issue is too old to allow me to re-open, so I created a new one here: https://www.drupal.org/project/commerce/issues/3163827
