There must be a better was for debugging than ad-hoc dpm() statements.

Patch flying in that adds a variable feeds_processor_debug_items that triggers logging to feeds log and watchdog.

Why don't you use the hook hook_feeds_presave() instead? (Or one of the other hooks)
