It does not provide a way to search for a previously uploaded file, which makes this task difficult.Hence pagination, or a more robust search implementation within the module could be of great help.

This is not "fixed". Sorting is not searching nor is it pagination. IMCE Tools was an alternative extension but has no 8 roadmap. There is a 2 year old alpha IMCE Search module with clearly no movement and also appears to not work properly based on testing.
