I can't reproduce this, it seems that temporary files are removed. I checked by creating a node with an image, and the temp file directory is empty afterwards:

$ ddev ssh
user@drupal11-web:/var/www/html$ ls /tmp/filefield_paths/
user@drupal11-web:/var/www/html$
