Hi,

I have checked with this theme and found when I am trying this theme in small devices not able to see responsive menu . I mean in small devices main menu not converted in expanded icon as other themes provide the functionality . I think I am overlooking on it . Can somebody help me on it .

Hi nareshbw,

Basic actually doesn't come with a responsive menu. The challenge being, our approach to a responsive menu greatly depends on the design. We want Basic to remain flexible in this respect.

You could take a look through the contrib modules and see if anything there gets you closer the functionality you are looking for. Superfish, for example, will turn your menu into a select box once your screens is smaller.

I am going to label this as a feature request and see if other express interest here. It is something we could look into adding in the future. I will also look into how other base themes are supporting this functionality.

I can understand narpeshbw's need in a responsive menu. As a humble Drupal webmaster (doing Drupal from 2009, passed through 5,6,7 and now works primarily with 8) and as a person who is very new to behavior-coding and starting to learn JQ soon I do have this to comment:

I myself "ate some straw" when Responsivness was almost non existent in the Drupal core and contribs (not to mention RTLness): It led me to learn much CSS and even some graphic design so to develop my own (mainly) mobile-first responsive codes and designs.

Many became desperate from the crazy amount of CSS-JS code rows for most Bootstrap 3.0 themes (and even from the fact that so much people use it in Drupal --- And for someone who hosts in a shared server, Drupal + Bootstrap could be a bit slow so many will look for themes like Basic). I had a premium BS theme and my GPI score was about 35/100 || 40/100 (an SEO disaster) while I built the exact same theme with a Basic base theme and raised without caching to about 75/100 || 80/100 even though I lost the Bootstrap's dropdown and responsive menus when moved to Basic.

I think that a simple vertical slideDown / slideUP JQ menu could only do good to Basic. Once we have this (alongside simple dropdown for Desktop menus and the pager which was just added) literally all users could use the theme as-is in respect to any of the "common" needs in the web.

I personally hope that Basic will become the next thing in lightweight Drupal theming --- Maintaining a weight of no more than 150kb (unzipped), offering all these seemingly essential Bootstrap features, but without burden.

I was looking for the responsive menu as well and couldn't find it. Any progress on this? In the meantime I'll be using a contrib module or custom implementation.

I'm doing some light housekeeping in the issue queue and I'm going to close this and the related issue as outdated. I'll add a note to the roadmap to see if there's any interest in bundling a responsive drop down menu but it seems to me that Drupal Dev's have their own favourite menu systems and will drop them in rather than wrangle something built in.
