Problem/Motivation

After reading #2646968: Regionalized Planet Drupal, Regionalized Planet Drupal and #2639048: Add a regional section of Planet Drupal: Planeta Latinoamericano I am here to request adding a regional section of Planet Drupal: Planet Chinese for content following the Drupal Planet's guidelines and posts will be in Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional.

For most of us, Language is a huge barrier in our local communities, and the quality of Drupal-related content in Chinese spreading can not be guaranteed without review. About 1/5 of the population in the world speaking Chinese, Not only people in China will benefit from this, but also people coming from Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia etc. will benefit too.

Proposed resolution

D8/D9 module to help setup a valid RSS feed to Planet Chinese, see https://github.com/jungleran/drupal-planet

Good suggestion!

Thanks so much for jungle, I'm very agree with you!Hope we can see a Chinese version of Drupal Planet.

For the url, I suggest that we can use https://www.drupal.org/planet/zh-hans.

Good suggestion!

Hope to early see a Chinese version of Drupal Planet.

jungle’s picture

Thanks @jackniu for post this on http://drupalchina.cn/node/5940

The zh-hans is the short code for Chinese Simplified. Since it is a regional planet, not only targeting for China, it is for Asia-Pacific community and for who write in Chinese Simplified or Chinese Traditional in the world. As Planeta Latinoamericano for who write in Spanish or Portuguese.

I guess https://www.drupal.org/xingqiu will be the winner.

Great proposal!

There are many drupal related blog in China. I guest that will be enough rss for it.
For the url, I think there is few known what does 星球 mean in d.o, I guess planet is commonly known to people who care about drupal. Also, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese are two official branches of Chinese language. we can call them both Chinese. So I vote for https://www.drupal.org/planet/chinese

Thanks for your proposal. As we just launched the pilot regional section (Latinoamericano), we'd like to wait at least a month or two before discussing adding more of them to see how active the new section is, how popular among our visitors, how much of a maintenance burden it adds for webmasters, considering they don't know the language of the content. I am marking this issue postponed for now.

Sounds reasonable. @tvn Thanks for your response.

After collected enough RSS feeds in Chinese here, maybe I'll mark this issue active again to let you know that we are ready.

My feed is http://code.drupalproject.org/snippets/recommended/feed, please give it a check, if anything wrong please let me know, I will fix it.

Also, I vote for https://www.drupal.org/planet/chinese, no reason.

Hi @tvn,

Almost two months have passed. I am marking this issue active back for your attention again.

As asked, below are 5 Drupal-related RSS feeds in Chinese that would be aggregated into the new section and 5 active Drupal.org users who would commit to moderating the section and adding new feeds to it.

Drupal-related RSS feeds:

  1. http://go-peak.net/blog/category/drupal/feed/
  2. http://code.drupalproject.org/snippets/recommended/feed
  3. http://drupalct.org/drupal-planet/rss.xml
  4. http://lugir.com/drupal/rss

Title: Add a regional section of Planet Drupal: Planet Chinese » Drupal Planet: Asia-Pacific

For various reasons I would appreciate such an effort with the sheer number of chinese speaking users being the most striking. As this feed should only aggregate chinese content I don't see a good reason not to name it accordingly. Using the a regional name seems inappropriate. After all there are non-chinese speaking countries in the Asia-Pacific.
This would be my the only roadblock I'd like to bring up.

Thanks @dddave for your reply.

It's ture that using a regional name is inappropriate. Is Planet Chinese ok?

Please do help us to work out a new section of Planet Drupal for Chinese speakers.

Title: Drupal Planet: Chinese » Create Drupal Planet: Chinese and add starter content.

I think this is a great idea if you're still interested, @jungle. It's been a while since the idea started. I wonder if we have any stats on the success of the Latinoamerica planet.

Looking at a few of the feeds proposed they seem to be "drupal" feeds and not "drupal planet" feeds. Could you review that list and confirm the feeds are valid (e.g. using this tool https://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi ), they are Drupal planet tags (and not just "drupal") and that the content meets the content guidelines? If all those things are met I believe this issue could move forward.

avpaderno’s picture

I guess that one of the issues is being able to verify the content meets the guidelines.

greggles’s picture

Yes, it would be good to get a system like using "Chinese Planet: " as a prefix for all issues and then having specific people who will review and approve that queue.

avpaderno’s picture

We could also use an issue tag or do as with issues to add feeds to Planeta Latinoamericano, which use titles similar to Add [URL] to Planeta Latinoamericano.

We probably had not much issues with the content for Planeta Latinoamericano also because, apparently, the requests to add feeds in that category weren't much, compared to the request to add feeds in English.

jungle’s picture

Issue summary: View changes

Hi @greggles and @kiamlaluno, thanks for pushing this forward!

Yes, I‘ve been watching this issue, and of course, I am still interested :)

After saw @greggles' comment on Sept 6. I planned to rebuild my personal blog first. and almost completed last weekend.

3 years past since the issue was created, so I'd collect again the feeds sources, all old ones will be removed from the summary unless their site owner claims that existed guidelines will be followed, and meanwhile, at least 3 blog posts published in Chinese in 2019 per source.

However, I wish we could make this come true ASAP by starting with an MVP.

To make an MVP, I'd write 3 Drupal-related blog posts in Chinese in a few days as the initial contents, and I wish I could be the first moderator.

For new moderators and new feeds, I'd suggest asking them to open issues with titles as @kiamlaluno suggested:

  • Add [URL] to Planet Chinese
  • Add [User] as a moderator of Planet Chinese.
greggles’s picture

This all sounds good to me. It seems ideal to have 2-3 people be moderators if possible.

I also created #3082175: Update the "content" project page with advice on issues to better document this.

We've regrouped on this internally at the DA and decided we should unblock this and let the community to step in and make it grow!

https://www.drupal.org/planet/chinese is now up and running.

From this thread, I've added the following feeds just to get us started - however, I agree they should be reviewed and updated to use a proper 'drupal planet' tag:
http://go-peak.net/blog/category/drupal/feed/
http://code.drupalproject.org/snippets/recommended/feed 404
http://drupalct.org/drupal-planet/rss.xml
http://lugir.com/drupal/rss
http://www.drupal001.com/feed/

These feeds don't have active content - but it should pick up new posts added to them (there's usually a 3 hour lag for planet posts)

And we will consider the following people moderators, per comment-10990467:
https://www.drupal.org/u/jungle
https://www.drupal.org/u/jackniu
https://www.drupal.org/u/vipzhicheng
https://www.drupal.org/u/lugir
https://www.drupal.org/u/robbin.zhao

For future threads and future moderation - I agree with the above, as @kiamlaluno suggested, issues for adding feeds and moderators should be titled as follows:

  • Add [URL] to Planet Chinese
  • Add [User] as a moderator of Planet Chinese.
greggles’s picture

Wonderful news! Thanks, hestenet!

What a great Valentine's Day gift to all Chinese Drupal People! Thank you all, especially @greggles, @kiamlaluno, @tvn, @jackniu for your efforts on this. Always appreciated Tim for your support and to make Planet Chinese come true directly and eventually!

jungle’s picture

And for the moderators, I’d like to propose a self-nominated approach by replying this issue or open new issues. Not sure all people suggested 4 years ago are still active nowadays and willing to get involved in.

jungle’s picture

For myself, I am active on drupal.org and slack, visit my profile to verify (https://www.drupal.org/user/2919723/track, Credited on 36 issues fixed in the past 1 year), as the issue creator, yes, I would like to be one of the moderators.

Nice work here, @jungle.

I would nominate myself as one of the moderators, please see my profile https://www.drupal.org/user/390243/track, has been with Drupal for 11 years, and is actively involved in Drupal 8 projects and also actively contribute patches as well, I would like to help Jungle here to increase the Chinese content to lower the barrier of Chinese native developers to this wonderful framework.

@hestenet: Ran Qiangjun has been added to Drupal Planet Chinese!
Oh - just realized this is English language! I'll tag it to the main planet feed.

Hi, @kiamlaluno. Actually, it's should be empty, the two articles were added by mistake. @hestenet corrected it, but the fetched articles stay.

Meanwhile, I would like to change the feed URL for the main planet -- the English one, and ask for adding a new feed for Planet Chinese, would you please visit the linked issue, I will post a comment there next.

As per comment #29, users who want to moderate Planet Chinese need to open a issue for that (using Add [User] as a moderator of Planet Chinese as title). Users who want to add a feed to Planet Chinese need to open an issue for that (using Add [URL] to Planet Chinese as title).

As I take that comment, there isn't anything left in this issue.
