Hi. This is more of a question before I start delving into d8. Since this version has stores, I wanted to understand how this scenario can be handled.

Suppose a product has a universal code, and store owner want to use this across multiple stores e.g. books using EAN or ISBN.

Does this version allow same SKU across different stores i.e. uniqueness of SKU is by combination of SKU and store_id?

If not a short term (but not ideal solution) is to have SKUs like ABC_1, ABC_2, ... etc when ABC is the universal SKU.

I should add that another reason for this is to easily track stock of same SKU across multiple stores.

It depends on what you mean here... there's nothing preventing you from publishing a single product to multiple stores on the site. However, the store entity doesn't necessarily correlate to physical stores for the purposes of tracking available inventory at those locations. It's not tied to stock management at all right now.

Is that what you're getting at?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I was hoping it will be tied to stock management. So that user can look at a specific (same) SKU across multiple stores and sum up stock to get total inventory.
Please will this be feasible in future, based on current architecture?

Stores are billing locations and have nothing to do with stock, since stock is not a part of Commerce core. What you want is the concept of warehouses, which I think is planned for Stock 2.x, you can go to their issue queue and help them make it happen.
