First of all, great project! I'm working with a nonprofit client that is moving to Open Lucius for their planning and bug-tracking work.

I'd like to propose that Open Lucius incorporate the module Distribution Update Status Manager. In the past year, the distributions Commerce Kickstart, Open Atrium, and Panoply have adopted it to help site admins see what needs to be updated and what should not be updated.

In brief, what it does:

  • Bundles all of the necessary modules from your distro, and the core version of Drupal, into one listed "module" on the updates page, and shows whether the distro is the most recent.
  • Hides the update notification (including update notification emails, if enabled) for any modules and Drupal core that are a part of the distribution.
  • Continues to display update notifications for modules that are not part of the distro.

This helps prevent site admins from getting confused and updating modules or Drupal core that are part of the distro, but also helps site admins to keep their other modules up to date. For instance, in our installation of Open Lucius, we have a few other modules -- Backup and Migrate, Coffee, etc. Those aren't part of the distro and we want to make sure they're kept up to date, but without Distribution Update Status Manager we have to periodically check on those modules specifically because of all the "noise" from listed updates for modules that are part of the distro.

Hope you'll consider this helpful site admin feature. Thanks!

Hi Ivan,

First of all, many thanks for your appreciation and it's an honor OpenLucius was chosen! :D

The implementation of Distribution Update Status Manager seems like a good one.
We'll analyse it this month and maybe implement it in next release.
FYI: we are planning on monthly releases, every first week of the month.

Thanks for all your hard work on this @joris_lucius. It's a wonderful distribution.

PS:
Ah... now I know where the 'lucius' in 'openlucius' originates from ;)
