Although the module can be set and configured on the Text Formats setting pages, when viewing a node edit form the WYSIWYG does not load and the toolbar is not visible (i.e. you will see normal markup in the text fields).

This is caused by an incompatibility with the Better Formats module. Disable the Better Formats module and all works as expected.

Sorry, not sure whether to log this here or on the Better Formats module issue queue! Also not sure what status to make this (fixed? so i have left as active).

I have not investigated the root cause of the issue, but disabling Better Formats module will restore full normal functionality for the CKEditor plugin.

Took me a couple of hours to track this down, so just logging here to save someone else the headache.

Thanks for the detailed bug report.

The Better Formats module looks for filter.module's default process function and then injects its own process function immediately afterwards. Editor should probably implement hook_module_implements_alter() to ensure that its own implementation of hook_element_info_alter() always comes last, allowing other modules to act before switching out the default filter.module process function.

Tested #3 in combination with the Better Formats module and verified that it fixes the issue.

There could be additional compatibility issues between the modules, since editor.module's process function will always run last (which could wipe out alterations done by Better Formats) but those should be handled separately.
