After update to dev 2015-Sep-23 the following notices are thrown while running update.php:

  1. Undefined variable: entity_type in metatag_update_7040() (Zeile 1858 von /var/www/html/cm7t/sites/all/modules/metatag/metatag.install).
  2. Undefined index: controller class in entity_get_controller() (Zeile 7962 von /var/www/html/cm7t/includes/common.inc).

After that update.php stops with: Fatal error: Class name must be a valid object or a string in /var/www/html/cm7t/includes/common.inc on line 7963
