In this release, there was a minor change to the clearing of the header, main, and footer of simple.layout.css that have broken the clearing.

7.x-4.3 (works)

.l-header:after,
.l-main:after,
.l-footer:after {
  content: "";
  display: table;
  clear: both;
}

7.x-4.4 (does not work)

.l-header:after,
.l-main:after,
.l-footer:after {
  content: " ";
  display: block;
  clear: both;
}

Well first off. The css is compiled from scss -files. The change you are referring to came after this branch upgraded from Susy 1.x to 2.x version. At least what git keep telling me. #2336011: Update susy 1 to version 2

If you do not like the Susy clear can you add your own clearfix code, but first change the global setting in the $susy section:
use-custom: (clearfix: true),
