Derivative images could be saved in such way we could avoid situation of having 67000 images in one folder. The problem is with server backup not capable to backup all Drupal solution (max 5000 pictures per folder). Suggestion is to distribute images across folders.

If this is something to be fixed in Drupal 8, then it must be fixed there first and backported to Drupal 7.
