This is an issue to coordinate evolution of Drupal.org Front page, which will be done through constant small iterative changes.
Changes are coming to Drupal.org itself, as we'll be slowly overhauling the site by implementing content strategy recommendations: #1133434: [META] Content Strategy for Drupal.org. Front page needs to keep up and support that work.
Biggest change coming out of content strategy is that we'll be re-arranging content on Drupal.org into more structured sections, aimed at specific audiences. Each section will have a high quality top level page with calls to actions specific to that section and its audiences.
Based on that, Drupal.org front page needs to act as an entry point, which welcomes you and sends you to appropriate section.
It should:
- be beautiful and welcoming
- give a sense of ‘currentness’, activity of the project
- give a sense of global active community
- show sneak peek of what else is there on the site
- send people to section pages
- have less words, less numbers, less clutter
Preliminary list of Section pages we'll need to send users to is the following:
#2481515: [META] Structure Drupal.org content around areas of user activity
We don’t yet have high quality section pages (or any) for some of the areas. Front page will change as we add new sections (content types) or redesign existing ones.
Areas currently supported by the front page
Future state with more areas added
