But since the 6.x and 7.x versions have very different code, it requires more than a simple backport. Hence the separate issue.
Hopefully this should not be a difficult fix.

As with the D7 version, site owners will need to get a Consumer Key and Secret from Discogs.com. (No way around this.)
Pushed to 6.x-1.x-dev, and a patch is attached.

The Discogs.com API deprecated some endpoints, so I simply removed the code that used them. An unintended consequence is that a numeric search term is no longer assumed to be an ID.
I'm going to fix this, but it should be considered a separate issue, so I created one: #2494687: Numeric search terms no longer assume ID.
