When a user enters a URL which is determined to be non-valid, the user in unable to submit the form and is presented with an error such as: "Unable to fetch oEmbed data or it is not a valid URL.". This kind of error is useful for administrators but causes confusion for normal users who are unaware of oEmbed is or what the need to do in order to save a node.

Perhaps a better experience would be to add these kinds of errors to the watchdog and allow the submission of the raw URL in the form.

The proposed patch created a notice entry in the watchdog table printing along oembed_validate_response() validation errors.

D7 reached its EOL back in January 2025, and there is no active release for D7 for this module anymore.
Development or support is not planned for D7. All D7-related issues are marked as outdated in a bunch.
