Just a heads up, if people are willing to work on it, there will be a WYSIWYG editor in Drupal seven. markItUp isn't true WYSIWYG, but it's name is on a core issue and--more importantly--it's based on jQuery.

So what I'm suggesting is, that you hop over to that issue and tell people about this module. Secondly, have a look at Gabor's battle plan on getting an editor into Drupal core, he has some great ideas on how editors should be tied to Input formats instead of text areas.

Sorry if this is repeating things you already know, feel free to wontfix, thought some of this might be useful though. :)

Liam,

Thanks for the heads up. As you've seen by now, I've taken action on your suggestions. (Just forgot to post to that effect here before I went to bed last night.)

Additional interest, and as you suggest, guidance with steering this module towards core would definitely be appreciated.

And thanks for the link to Gabor's post. I'd seen it before, but now that I'm working on markitup it's a little more "poignant" for me. :) I agree with his direction wholeheartedly, associating editors with input formats is the way to go. I haven't gotten to sit down and work that idea out in Drupal 6 yet, and of course with the current work Gabor's doing for D7 it probably means D6 will not lend itself to this easily...
