After upgrade to 7.x-2.3x, group menus in news section has changed to be "Files & Folder menu".
See attached screen shot
I can not find how to change the menu back to a "group menu" again.
Thankful for tips how to solve this.

This is correct and "by design". The Files & Folders widget is the new UI for displaying the Group Menu. It's still showing the same info but has a better interface for expanding and collapsing (and remembering what is expanded).

If you still want the old Group Menu widget you can customize the template or page, remove the Files/Folders widget and replace it with the old Group Menu widget that is in the Menus section of the Add Content. But you'll be missing all of the document management improvements that come with the new widget.

Thank you for information.
I just saw that new functionality on docs.openatrium.com also...
For example: http://docs.openatrium.com/node/352/view

So the new function is supposed to work like this:
Select the folder icon, and then click on the gear icon to the right of the folder icon and then on "View metadata" to jump to the linked page?

For me, it seams much easier as before, just to click on the link...
But maybe I have missed something?

Title: After upgrade, "Group Menu" changes to "Files & Folders" menu.. » Clicking on a document in the new Files/Folders widget does not open the page

Hmm, no, that looks more like a bug. Clicking on a document *should* take you to the document (or file if there is an attachment). Only clicking a folder should expand the folder rather than going to the node. Looking at the link to docs.openatrium.com that you posted shows there is a clear problem here. Let me look into this a big more and see if it's a configuration issue or a code problem.

EDITED: Confirmed this on my dev system. Definitely a bug and not what was intended. The Files/Folders widget works correctly when using Taxonomy terms for folders, but not when using the Group Menu version. Should have a patch soon.

Well, I see what caused this...

The tricky part with the Menu-based widget is determining the difference between a Document and an empty Folder. In a previous issue ticket we decided that an empty folder was a document page with no attachments where the "Show Node instead of file" checkbox was disabled.

If you edit your document (metadata) and check the "Show node" option, then it will work properly.

But you are correct that as a backwards compatibility issue, this causes broken sites (like the docs.openatrium site). I will try to think of a different way to handle empty folders vs documents.

Here is a patch to try. See if this helps make your documents clickable again.

Just put this patch on the docs.openatrium.com site and it seems to work.

What I did to fix it was also check to see if the Body field is empty. If a node has no attachments, empty body, and the show node is unchecked, then it is considered an empty folder. Of course, any node that has children in the menu is still considered a folder and clicking it will just expand the folder rather than going to the document. If you have put a lot of content into your parent menu items you will probably want to move that content into a subitem within the menu.

The patch worked.
Thank you for great support

Hi again.
Some thoughts.
I see the benefits with the new way the menu works, specially when you have linked files to the documents.
But for an example, our policy section, worked better the old way.
With the new menu we can not access the "top-level documents".
Clicking that in the menu, only expand the folder, showing the links to the "sub documents"

I tried #1, and made a separate section template for this.
The layout and menu changed, but only for the "top section" that list all documents. But once I click on one of the documents (content), the menu changes to "files and folder" again.
So the very content page, will not look like the section template.
I guess that layout layout comes from admin/structure/content types and the "Document page type"...
Is there a way to clone that type, like I can do with the section template, or am I getting this wrong.
I attach some screen shots from docs.openatrium.org that might help explain what I mean.

Thank´s for great support.
/Tobias

You can still put the old "Group Menu" widget on your page if you'd rather use the old method.

However, users have problems with menu items that also have content associated with them. You might want to look at your IA and find a way to move the content from the folders into actual documents within the folders. Having a hierarchy where clicking a parent doesn't just expand the children is contrary to how most people expect menus to work.

Ultimate, we can't have it work both different ways. We had *lots* of complaints about the way document management worked in the old version and it is much improved now (as you said, for people used to files/folders). So we need to go with the default that makes sense for the largest number of users.

If you want to go to the document assigned to the folder, you can hover over and click the gear-icon on the right and select View Metadata.

You are correct that the docs.openatrium.com site needs to be improved to use the new Files/Folder effectively. A revamp of our doc and support site is underway.

Closing this as fixed since the patch fixes the original problem of not being able to click on documents within folders.

I think there's a regression here...

I've found that this patch wasn't applied and it's not appliable any more since code has been changed per this commit

I'm having problems with this using OA 2.41. When I create a new "Document page" with not empty body and no child nodes in the menu system, it appears as a folder in the widget, so it's no clickable.

Thanks.-
