Field created by Field Example not visible to Rules

Hi. I'm exploring the Examples for Developers (thank you all for putting this one together!). This module creates the new field type "Example Color RGB". I'm trying to set its value with Rules, but the Rules data selector doesn't seem to find this field at all. How do you make this new field type visible to Rules? Thanks in advance.
