There are some open issues with some good ideas that shouldn't be implemented in the current branch as they would be disruptive to existing sites. Lets compile them here.

#1157794: Move markup to template files and improve theming in new 2.x branch

Hi there, I see that both issues are still open -- is it a case of efforts simply fizzling out, or were they superceded by other FC+theme efforts, or?
