Panelizer entity file save error

Getting the following error when saving custom page with panelizer on an file_display (page):
Recoverable fatal error: Argument 1 passed to file_save() must be an instance of stdClass, null given, called in ../sites/all/modules/contrib/file_entity/plugins/entity/PanelizerEntityFile.class.php on line 25 and defined in file_save().
