When editing a menu item, the default value of the orientation is not being correctly set, this is the offending code on line 230.

'#default_value' => isset($form['options']['#value']['menu_attach_block']['name']) ? $form['options']['#value']['menu_attach_block']['name'] : 'horizontal',

needs to be

'#default_value' => isset($form['options']['#value']['menu_attach_block']['orientation']) ? $form['options']['#value']['menu_attach_block']['orientation'] : 'horizontal',

will supply patch.
