I'd like to offer to port the Node Hierarchy module to Drupal 8.

The foundation for Drupal 8 is now in place, and the module now supports hierarchy-based breadcrumbs.

I believe this is ready to release as an alpha or dev release for D8.1.x.

I have a release ready for testing, but not production. There is no support for menus. See the sandbox link above if you want to give it a try. Haven't heard back from the 7.x module maintainer about listing a release on the home page yet.

@webdrips should this be renamed to entity hierarchy and posted as a new module? Also, would love to test this, but my project is strictly using composer, and the sandboxed version doesn't expose it to composer.

@sammarley-jarrett I am awaiting approval of another module before I can start officially promoting sandbox projects to full projects. At that point, yes I will probably move this to "Entity Hierarchy"

I'll post an update as soon as I have permission to promote full projects.

I am closing this issue since the Entity Reference Hierarchy module linked in the previous comment have had a Drupal 8 stable release since January, 2019.
