It may be necessary to have another area type, to represent areas that are forested, brush, unkempt, not in use, etc.

Title: New area type: Forested/Brush/Etc » New area type: Wild

How about "Wild" as the name?

Some more:

  • Silo
  • Pit
  • Shed
  • Run-in

Although, it might make sense for this to be heirarchaial (sp). For instance:
Structures > Buildings, Structures > Shed, Structures > Windmill, Structures > Silo > pit, Structures > Silo > vertical, Structures > Silo > blocked area.

Another thing to consider: attributes of Areas (or more probably: structures), like power, water, septic, ...

Although those might be better under a "system" arrangement (that shares items with other entities). For example: water system, power system, ... And the various "areas/buildings/..." would have relations back to the system its attached to.

One of the things that just came up on our farm is that we have to alter a "water system", and it would be good to know where we put the pipes, power, ... -- basically: where the trench is.

Ah yea - in my mind, that all points to #2363393: Make "Area" into a type of Farm Asset. Basically, we've outgrown the usefulness of representing "areas" as taxonomy terms. They really should be managed as assets like everything else. That would allow some semi-duplicate code to be combined... and make a whole lot more record keeping available on areas themselves. Still some details to figure out too...
