It'd be useful if there was a configurable option to show how long ago the status was set, just like it does on Facebook itself.

I've added this functionality to fbstatus and will release the upgraded version shortly. You have your choice of printing the adjusted timestamp (Drupal short form, adjusted to server or user's timezone) or the elapsed time.
