I know it's possible to show or hide the Date CCK field in teasers and full nodes using the settings in the respective content type, but I would like to have more control over the data that is displayed. So I figured I should add some php code in node.tpl.php.
Can anyone tell me how to display the cck date field using a php string?
I can't figure out what php variable to use.

KarenS CreditAttribution: KarenS commentedI'm not making changes to the 5.1 version. I'm officially recommending you move to the 5.2 version now. If you have problems in that version you can check for existing issues or add new ones. Feature requests are now getting posted to the D6 version to be back-ported to 5.2.
You can override the date themes. The php docs in the 5.2 version of date.theme explain what information is available.
