After installing the scheduler module and enabling it in the modules, I am unable to find it.
Where does it appear and how is it used?

Comes with a README.txt file. Please read it.

README.txt:

4. Visit admin > settings > content-types and click on any node type and
   check the box "enable scheduled (un)publishing" for this node type

This is the right version:

admin > content > types
