When using the SearchApiEtRemoveLanguageFromItemId filter the result count and items per page are still based on the original number of results. I can't think of a good way around this while using this method as we can't know how many duplicates there are until we've fetched a page of results. Any ideas?

Actually, the filter didn't break anything, on the contrary, it was helping with avoiding duplicates in multilingual search results. It was just a first step towards fixing this issue, and wasn't helping at all for facet counts.

Anyway, it has been removed now completely in the most recent commit, its functionality being replaced (and extended) by new Search API Entity Translation Database Search module.
