Support for opening video players with Colorbox was added to the 7.x branch in #1929652: Support for colorbox. It can be found within this module's directory at youtube/modules/youtube_colorbox. That module is named YouTube Field Colorbox.

YouTube Field Colorbox should be ported into the 8.x branch. This will, of course, rely on the progress of a stable 8.x release for both this module and Colorbox.

A recent commit has been made to Colorbox's 8.x-1.x branch titled, "More or less working on 8.0.0-beta2." If that is accurate, development for this should be able to begin sooner than later.

Unfortunately there is not. I'm happy to review any patches for it, but I don't currently have the time to do the work myself.
