Suddenly my external links started opening in the same window. The extlink graphic is shown. I do not know exactly when this happened.
I checked settings, and the setting "Open external links in a new window" was off.
I turn it on, and save. But the option is not saved; the checkbox reverts to being blank (not selected).
The "extlink_target" variable is set to "_blank" in the database, which I believe is as it should be.
Any ideas?

I believe it is related to #1304464: Add option to set "target" attribute. Open all links in single window.

If you set "extlink_target" to '0' it should fix your problem.

Closing the issue as its inactive and old.
