Please, provide the exact documentation, how to get Method 1 working - tried multiple times and no luck.

The documentation page is not meant to teach how to use other technology. It is for explaining the Bootstrap base theme and how to sub-theme it. There are already examples through-out the internet on how to do what it is you're asking.

Bootstrap sub-theming has many specific tasks which are not so trivial. Documentation should explain that. Mistake in documentation is bug of the same level as in the code. Theme is marked having "stable" release, so it should work as explained in documentation.
