This works great in garland for me. However in zen, it does not. I have attached what it looks like in IE and Firefox.

I also have a temp fix below. I edited advanced_forum.css to the following:

width: 140px;
}
#newtopiclink a {
color: white;
}

/*float:left;*/
}

[...]

This will result in the screenshot fixed.png. It isn't perfect, but will look the same in both IE and Firefox under windows and looks significantly better.

I was facing the same problem and you can read my partial fix in this post
But even after applying that fix there is still one bug when you are looking at the forum list

I hate to leave people hanging but I am not any good with CSS and simply don't have the time to try and fix CSS issues with every theme out there. So I'm going to have to "won't fix" issues with themes other than Garland. Hopefully theme maintainers will pick up the forum theming once the module stabalizes.

Totally cool with me. I figured I was on my own with this, but wanted to share what worked for me to anyone else having a similar issue.
