I'm hoping that D8 multisites will use more friends URLs to image and files.

On a D6 multisite, an image file path can look like this: /sites/mydomain.com/files/imagecache/etc
In D6 CCK, filefield stores the whole path, hard-wiring the file to mydomain.com

It seems to me that the first part of the mutlisite path "/sites/mydomain.com/" is redundant, and we should be able to exclude it, so that an image file path becomes simply: /files/imagecache/etc

Some clever people have solved this with modifications to htaccess (see "Multisite Files directory issue"), so that a request to www.mydomain.com/files/imagecache/etc will automatically resolve to www.mydomain.com/sites/mydomain.com/files/imagecache/etc

I'm hoping that this will work out of the box.

I've just noticed that this applies to all Drupal 8 sites, not just multisite. All files are uploaded to, and is referenced as:

sites/default/files/inline-images/phone-icon-md.png

Can't the routing module automatically alias this to:

inline-images/phone-icon-md.png

It would make it easier to move content between sites.

@iantresman This is worth doing IMO. Will need someone to take on the work and submit a patch of course.

Version: 8.0.x-dev » 8.1.x-dev

Drupal 8.0.6 was released on April 6 and is the final bugfix release for the Drupal 8.0.x series. Drupal 8.0.x will not receive any further development aside from security fixes. Drupal 8.1.0-rc1 is now available and sites should prepare to update to 8.1.0.

Bug reports should be targeted against the 8.1.x-dev branch from now on, and new development or disruptive changes should be targeted against the 8.2.x-dev branch. For more information see the Drupal 8 minor version schedule and the Allowed changes during the Drupal 8 release cycle.

This can be done easily with .htaccess rewrites.

No, it can't. public files are not delivered through Drupal.

You can either use .htaccess rewrites as suggested above, or simply configure public path to be elsewhere.

I think this should be closed.
