I have no use for the module anymore nor time to maintain it, but I'm willing to grant commit access (as a starting point) if you need so you can start working on it.
I have not dug deep enough into D8 architecture to see if there is a better way to do it, so feel free to propose some things.

It appears I have no right to manage maintainers (I'm not the original owner of the module). Please post your code here as a patch, and I'll commit it with attribution to you. I'll create the 8.x branch this week.

Thanks, this has been committed (authored to you).

I don't see how to make the 8.x-1.x branch appear on the front page of the project, I think the best is probably to create an issue in the webmasters queue asking to transfer full ownership to you. Or could you eventually ask that by e-mail to previous maintainers, maybe they'll be able to do it without involving drupal.org busy webmasters?
