When using Lingotek, you'll need to manually copy all of the message text from website's default language to the other installed languages as mentioned in steps 6 and 7 of the Displaying your site in other languages Commons documentation.

Adding Message API translation support to Lingotek is being worked on in #2097083: Message API messages are not translated which should remove this requirement.

Its not the problem with lingotek but with 'locale' module, When I disabled locale module using 'drush pm-disable locale -y' then It was showing 'recent site activities'. this does not used to happen with earlier versions of commons, This is happening with current 7.x-3.x-dev version of commons.

This behavior is by-design with the Entity module per #1782134: Translatable fields: Not overriding language-none values with empty default-language values. Per Devin's comment, the Lingotek team is looking into how that project can accelerate the process of translating Message entities into other languages. Marking a fixed but feel free to re-open with any questions or clarifications.

Hi, i don't understand the solution.

Do we need to wait entity module to correct the bug to use the activity stream on a site with more than one language ?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Antonio

Issue happened to my site on commons 7.x-3.18. #1782134 fixed it for me:

Getting the following:-

Recent site activity

with no description of the activity, but only in the Anonymous front page. Displays correctly when logged in, and the patch referred to immediately above had no effect. Same, running commons 7.x-3.18. Newish install.

PS. Australian site that only uses English. No foreign languages used or allowed.

I seem to be able to switch on and off the erroneous "Recent site activity" display when logged on by enabling and disabling the Locale 7.32 module. With it enabled the uploaded "site error.jpg" of the "Commons Activity Streams - Activity (Site-wide) (Message)" view is shown. With it disabled the uploaded "site no error.jpg" of the "Commons Activity Streams - Activity (Site-wide) (Message)" is shown. Note: bottom left preview, with and without description of activity.

This affects the displayed "Recent site activity" when logged in. The "Recent site activity" is still lacking the activity descriptions when logged off. ie to an anonymous user irrespective of the Locale module status.

@Wolfflow: Just to clarify, you copied the message text to your different languanges after enabling locale?

admin/config/system/message/text-copy

Wolfflow’s picture

Hi @slowflyer: I did not copy any text using admin/config/system/message/text-copy,
As I know after installing the default commons profile I activated the locale module and configured 2 languages (in my case one for German and the other for Italian) importing for each language the relative .po files with admin/config/regional/translate/import.

Do have I miss something?

Ok, after getting some more info on Adding another language to your Drupal 7 site Acquia Documentation, finally I get to understand exactly what steps should be done to have Activity Stream working as supposed:

Procede with a default Drupal Commons installation
After you get to the Site Home page on status "Installation Complete"

  1. Rebuild Permissions, if you have activate the "Group Access" installation option
  2. Goto Modules and activate "Content Translation" and "Locale" modules
  3. Go to admin/config/system/message/text-copy and
  4. select language to copy from : Language neutral
  5. select language to copy to: English
  6. activate: Override existing Text

This may config Activity Stream Site and Users issue back to as supposed with a multilanguage site settins.

PS: It would be nice and appreciate if on the Drupal Commons distribution package a README.TXT or INSTALL.TXT file could be contained with some of the peculiarity contained for getting succeding in a default multilanguage installation.

Thank to All who helped me on this and other issues to succede finally.

As I finally cleared out what the problem in this issue relay and eventually I manage to understand what are the right configuration steps to undertake for configuring Drupal Commons with Multilanguage I set this issue as CLOSED-FIXED.
