I hope this is of help to point out where I went wrong or misunderstood the function of this module.

My expected result would be that both Story 1 and Story 2 would be tagged "lake" and show up in lake. (A test of listing the terms shows that they do not, Story 1 is listed in "lake" and Story 2 in "basin")

The read only mode works fine, btw. I haven't tested the ancestral and related terms functionality yet.

I tried something similar to what you tried, but it works for me.

As soon as you create the story in step 17, you should see the "basin" tag change to "lake" immediately after submitting the story. If you go back to edit the story right after you create it, you should see "lake" in the field instead of "basin".

This works for me, at least.

I'll try another test site and try again.

Nope, no luck.

Same again. Drupal 5.6, only core modules + unitag. This time I first made a term "lake" and added the synonyms at once. Then created two stories.

Problem resided between chair and keyboard.

Read instructions. One synonym per line. Not comma separated as I thought it would be...

Assumptions makes, etc.
