Contributed projects are stored on drupal.org using a version control
system called CVS. All project maintainers must use CVS to manage their
code. CrossVC is a GUI application used on Windows, Mac, and Linux to work
with CVS. There are no written instructions in the handbook on how to use
it or a video that shows how to install CrossVC. Create instructions on how
to use it to check out the contributions repository and create a patch to
help fix a real issue in drupal.org's issue queue for contributed modules
or themes.

The task will involve learning how to install the application and use it to
complete basic CVS tasks: checkout the HEAD and DRUPAL-6 branches of the
contributions CVS repository and a patch suitable for submission to a
project's issue queue. Then record and narrate a video that walks through
these steps.

The deliverable for this task is to
1. create the instructions to obtain and install CrossVC, check out
repositories, and create patches. The ultimate formatting should be modeled
like other pages in the CVS GUIs and clients section of the handbook.
2. upload the handbook page content and training video to an issue on
drupal.org assigned to the Drupal Documentation project. The video should
be less than 15 minutes in mp4
format that shows how to install CrossVC, checkout HEAD and DRUPAL-5
revisions of contributions from CVS, and create a patch. Don't forget to
mention this GHOP issue in your submission.
3. submit the patch you created to the issue you chose and update the
status of the issue accordingly.

The task is complete upon review and approval by a documentation team member.

Except nobody ever wrote the docs...

Well its good that you came and changed it back. Most of the old doc requests have invalid links, or are pointing to documents that have already been updated a million times. In this case it was shared with me that these old GHOP items can be marked as fixed. Now if someone shows interest in getting them written then the status can be changed back (as you did) and we can hope someone with enough knowledge can come along and write them.... without another year passing :(

I wish I could help more and step in and write this, but I was not even AROUND when this ticket was written, and I only know tortoise (and barely at that).

@deekayen, since no one has taken this on in almost 1.5 years, I consider this a won't fix. If someone is inspired or needs it, then the doc will get done. I understand recording desired docs, but at some point we need to weed out things that people are not working on, if they aren't critical, so we can keep this issue queue manageable. If you would like to work on this yourself in the near future, feel free to reopen, but otherwise I want to clean it out.
