Geofield coordinates are not importing

i have set the fields to import as 'name' and 'description' and 'custom_geo_field'

the name and description import, but the geofield does not.
on export, a geofield coordinate will show up in WKT format,
thus here is an example of how i am testing an import via the text area:

name1, desc1, POINT (-77.42424 40.908997)

any ideas?
do i need to 'Set custom fields of the vocabulary ' or anything?
