Hi coming from: http://drupal.org/node/1933822 and installing the zip of: http://drupal.org/files/simplenews-1933822-13.zip
1) I enabled Simplenews Newsletter for panelizer on admin/config/content/panelizer
2) I enabled Email: HTML for panelizer. Enabled everything on the row so I got "Save to access panel list"
3) I clicked save
After this the options to enable panelizer where not shown anymore for email, only
Full page override, Standaard, Teaser
4) I had to go to the simplenews contenttype and on admin/structure/types/manage/simplenews/display
Add as adjusted display Email: HTML. After this on admin/config/content/panelizer I saw Email: HTML arising.
But How to get different nodes now on different panel-pane places, so that on the newspaper email it looks like a panel page with the content orderly say one node to the left, the other one to the right?
Please advise.
Thanks a lot in advance for helping me.
Greetings, Martijn

andrewbelcher commentedWhat do you mean by different nodes? Panelizer allows you to override a newsletter node and lay out the fields and any other data you can add via panelizer. The 'Add Content' links in panelizer gives you the different bits of content you can put in place.

summit commentedHi @Andrewbelcher,
What would then be the correct workflow.
A) First adding a Newsletter node
B) Then Adding heading of newsletter
C) Then adding other nodes inside the newsletter through panelizer?
Will the the Newsletter as such me send as email?
Can I also add a standard header/footer the same as the site, so it looks as the same layout?
Greetings, Martijn

andrewbelcher commentedPanelizer allows you to set a default layout which is used as a base unless you override it, so yes, you can set up standard header and footer.
What do you mean by adding other nodes? If you want a newsletter to contain other nodes, panelizer's 'add content' allows you to embed other nodes...

summit commentedHi @AndrewBelcher, I mean this great module http://drupal.org/project/simplenews_content_selection
With that you can select content for a newsletter, would be great if it could also be placed on right place.

andrewbelcher commentedI've never used that module so I've no idea if they expose things to panels... Sorry.

summit commentedHi,
I can set the nodes through "add content" through panelizer. Thanks!
But when I send a test-newsletter, the nodes are not attached.
Also when I click view on the newsletter node, the panel-panes are not shown.
I also got this error:
When I click preview within panelizer (node/11/panelizer/email_html/content) I see the added content nodes, but not on the newspaper-node itself through view and not on the resulting email..
Should I may be set: admin/config/system/htmlmail to no template?
Thanks for helping me still, I hope we can work it out!

summit commentedHi,
Any news on this please? I would love to be able to attach nodes to a panels-template for my newspaper and be able to set the content left, right, etc..
Until now I am not possible to show the content attached and also not seeing any content attached in a test email-newsletter.
I can attach the content through panelizer to the newspaper-node, but it is nowhere showing!
Greetings and thans for your time and effort to get this working.

andrewbelcher commentedFrom what you've said it sounds like the problem is with getting Simplenews Content Selection to work with panelizer rather than a general simplenews and panelizer issue. I've never used that module, so I don't know what they do or how they do it. I would suggest asking them to take a look and see if they can make it integrate. It may be a case of doing something like creating a ctools
content_typeplugin or setting up a ctoolsrelationshipplugin...Comment #10
summit commentedHi, may be you are right, but with disabling that module and setting content to certain panes in the newsletter node.
1) The content is not shown in the newspaperscreen, and also not in the email?
2) Somehow the panelizer shows a newspaper-layout on edit page with panel-panes, but it is not shown on view page.
Next to this it seems every newspaper has now the same layout..while I thought it would be possible to edit this per newspaper?

summit commentedHi,
I would asume that by adding a new newspaper with node/add/simplenews I would get for the body-field the panel-layout on which I can add the content, right?
greetings, Martijn
Comment #12
andrewbelcher commentedIn terms of each node having it's own layout, panelizer allows you to create defaults (via Admin -> Configuration -> Content authoring -> Panelizer) or have node specific overrides (via Node -> Panlizer).
I'm sorry, I don't really understand what your other issue is. Could you provide the steps to reproduce and I can take a look?

summit commentedHi,
I want a newsletter to be panelized as such that I can fill the content in the different panel-panes.
So I would expect that the body of a newsletter-nodetype after panelizing would hold the panelize chosen format.
This way I should see a newsletter with possible left, right, top, bottom etc..panels pane.
But what I see when I add a newsletter-node with add/node/simplenews is shown in the attached image.
No panel-panes, only a plain body field which I can fill with text.
What do I do wrong please?
Greetings, Martijn

summit commentedReplying to your remark: "have node specific overrides (via Node -> Panlizer"
I only can see this when I look at Node -> Panelizer (see attached image).
I can only select the Email:HTML standard panelizer but I can not fill any panes on the simplenews node with other content as such that a newsletter with left, right, top, bottom is arising!

Thanks a lot in advance for your reply!

summit commentedHi,
Still no possibility to add one node in left content pane of one newsletter and another node in another content pane of particular newsletter.
Any one success with this please?
Thanks a lot in advance for your reply!

tchopshop commentedHi Summit, have you ever used Panelizer before? Looks like you're not even getting to the Panelizer page where you would add content and change layout. There should be a tab next to the normal View and Edit tabs on your newsletter node. That will take you to the Panelizer settings.
Also if you make the Panelizer an IPE, then you can access those settings through a modal from the View page. However, I'm not sure if you can access it from the view page if it's a different view mode than Full Page Override, so maybe the IPE won't work with HTML:email.

mediaformat commentedHi folks,
I am trying to achieve the same thing!
So far, I have a Simplenews content-type with the Panelizer attached.
The Panelizer appears as a tab on the simplenews-node,
-in the panelizer tab I have an Email: HTML view,
--inside the content section of the view I have my fabulously paneled email template.
The problem, as I believe Summit had, is that the panelizer tab does not seem to affect what is visible on the simplnews-node.
Any luck?

summit commentedHi @Djungle, exactly! I would very much like to be able to use panelizer to show components on different places with a panels template within a simplenews Node...
Greetings, Martijn
Comment #20
mediaformat commentedGreat, so using the Full Page Override view, means that on the node page I now see the layout created in the panelizer.
However, sending test emails through the newsletter tab, the newsletters arrive empty!
Have you been able to solve this?
Regards
Comment #21
andrewbelcher commentedSimplenews uses the Email HTML and Email Plain view modes on your newsletters, so to adjust how the email gets sent out, you need to panelize those view modes. To change how it looks when you visit the node, you want to set up the Full content view mode.
Have to tried the 'preview' in panelizer to check that it's rendering things correctly?
mediaformat commented@andrewbelcher Thanks for your reply.
I have panelized the Email HTML, and the Full content view modes.
The preview in panelizer for both modes is rendering correctly...
The email I receive seems to have stripped all the content coming from the panels.
Though I am wondering now, if I create a simplenews node and customize the page using the IPE, would it only affect the Full content view? or would the customization also be seen in the Email HTML view mode?
mediaformat commentedOk I've just realized that this functionality is for the 7.2-dev branch, which is not visible from the project main page
Comment #24
mediaformat commentedGreat, so now my node is being sent by email with html.
Now the issue I have, is that the panelizer structure is printed, ie. region headers, contextual links and all!
Any clues?
Perhaps it has more to do with panelizer...
andrewbelcher commentedYes, you will need to set the panel, regions and panes to use 'no style', or at least play with the styling to get it right.
summit commentedIf you succeed, would love to know exactly how you did it.
Would be great to have simplenews nodes with panels-panes integrated So other nodes can be connected and the whole bunch can be send as simplenews newsletter.
Would be much greater if this module could also be involved so users with right admin can select nodes to insert within the newsletter! https://drupal.org/project/simplenews_content_selection

mediaformat commented@andrewbelcher
Thank you, somehow I'd managed to do it, but wasn't sure on how/where I'd done it!
@Summit
Here is my basic understanding so far:
1. Activate view modes (Email: HTML, Email: Plain, etc. *1) in simplenews content-type, this makes them visible to panelizer.
2. In panelizer you must check the following boxes: Panelize (Newsletter Issue, Email: HTML), Provide Default Panel (Email: HTML)
3. In panels/layouts, add a felixble layout. Structure your layout using columns, rows, and regions. The regions are where you will
be able to place content (add nodes, views, blocks, etc). You might want to give the regions CSS class names so as to style them later. Save your custom layout.
4. Go to content-type/newsletter and select the panelizer tab, here you can control the allowed content as well as your panelized view-mode(Email:HTML). In Email:HTML, go to Layout and select your custom layout, saving brings you to Content. Here your regions are editable and you may add content that you want to be part of the template. Use the preview, and save when satisfied.
5. Create a newsletter (simplenews content-type), give it a title and ignore the body. Save. Now go to the panelizer tab and select your view-mode (Email: HTML), go to content, and add the nodes to the regions.
6. Go to the Newsletter tab of your newsletter node, and send a test newsletter to the test address.
Note
*1 : It is not necessary to select the Full Content view-mode, if you do this will show the panelizer template with IPE (In place editor) on the node page, which may be confusing to the editor, as adding content to the panelized layout will not be available to Email: HTML and so will not be sent in the newsletter.
End note
This method does not include the Simplenews Content Selector. It would be interesting to have since the panelizer content selector only permits adding nodes by ID or name(text input). The user experience of the SCS allows for filtering nodes by content type, and selecting a multiple nodes at once.

candelas commentedI think the problem Submit was having it is because the html view in Panels has problems and don't pass the arguments to views. Changing the Panelizer view mode in "Substitute view mode" to another that is panelized (as the Full page override) corrects this problem.
