Filter by tag per node

I'm thinking of using the biblio module manage reference lists on a website for a research organisation that uses EndNote. The main use is contextual reference lists on pages related to certain research projects, of which we have hundreds, or staff, which we also have hundreds. Would the biblio module be suitable for this, for instance by tagging a node with a taxonomy term, and having view field pick this up and display a list of references? How is this sort of thing handled natively in biblio? I've had a look at the documentation and support queue and it wasn't obvious. Thanks!
