Great module - I was wondering if it would be possible to restrict content type search ability by role?

Unfortunately, it's not very easy to do what you're asking. I actually investigated this before I wrote the module. By default, search.module indexes everything, and then filters the results based on what permissions exist in the node access table due to a node_load call in node_search. What this means is that you can't easily allow users to view content without viewing it in search.

I suppose you could write some code to hook into the search results screen, but it would have to maintain permissions seperate from the node_access tables. If it is possible, it would be better to have it as a separate module.
