It looks like there is no way to set the default value to objects which type is "select". I tried to use object names as well as numbers as a default value with no success.

jnt CreditAttribution: jnt commentedI do not see this behaviour running cvs version. I have tried both multiple and single value select groups, selection of a default works on both for me.
One procedural issue that possibly needs to be better documented in this. After you modify the default value an element by selecting "Done" to finish the edit of the component, you must then also select "Submit" at the bottom of the edit page.
Also confirm the default string you are using is identical to the option you wish as the default.

(not verified) CreditAttribution: commentedI removed old installation and installed CVS version and everything works fine now. I didn't see any error messages when installing version 4.5.0 but it is still possible that I made some mistakes when installing module first time and maybe that's why those default values didn't work...
