Hello, I'm relatively new to panels but seems that this request might belong here and not panels. Please change if it should be in Panels.

With certain content pane types you can "Overwrite title" with a custom title, for example a mini panel. However, when you choose to overwrite the title the new title does not show in the admin view in panels. Instead the original mini panels title shows, in fact it shows twice. See attached screenshot.

Instead of having the title show twice, would it be possible to have the handle/grip (in line with the cog) show the original title and the title below it the overwritten title?

Maybe this is already possible by overwriting the output using a hook of some kind? If so, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this?

Thanks for reading,
-Tim

I agree - i've always struggled with this - its difficult to spot which panel to edit in the UI.

An option to edit the Admin Title for each pane would be sensible.

I think this might belong in the panels issue queue though.

EDIT: I retract the above - my columns in panels are just too narrow for me to see the full admin title.

In most cases, overwriting the title should *not* change the administrative title. The issue here is that the administrative title of the mini panel and the displayed title of the mini panel happen to be the same, until you override the displayed title. So what you have is a weird coincidence where you actually want to change the administrative title. Now, potentially mini panels is behaving incorrectly on the inner content, where it should display the overwritten title rather than the original title. That would probably be a bug and looked into; but the main administrative title should not be changed by overriding the title.

Hi all,

I just used mini-panels as an example. I believe this is true of all panel panes where you can change the title. Here is the usability problem I would like to solve.

When I change the title by choosing to override title, the title changes on the output for that panel...aka what the anonymous user sees. Let's say I set up my site and then a few months go by. Now I have to edit my panel so I look at the end user view of the page and see something that has the display title "ABC". I login, go to edit my panel and start looking for ABC in my panel admin because that is what I want to change.

I wouldn't be looking for the admin title which might be "XYZ". This problem is magnified with a panel with many panes, and a person managing many sites each with many panels and panes. I guess my question then is, if the display title has changed what's the benefit of the admin title to the panel administrator while viewing the panel edit content screen. Why would the panel administrator need to know/remember the admin title?

Thanks again,
-Tim

Issue summary: View changes

First, thanks thanks thanks for this useful, excellent and brilliant module :)
Each time I use it I learn more interesting things that make my site building easier!

I have also the problem with panes and their administrative title in the administrative interface.
In my case, I have created a views pane to list nodes with two context (content type and term tid) that are set with "input in pane config". In Views, I tried to override, in Pane settings, the Admin title but it doesn't take parameters like %1. I have 5 of them in a minipanel.

I can figure out which pane to edit, but for my client is not very user friendly :)
So I request to be able to use parameters in the admin title or any solution to facilitate the recognition.
I change this to 8.x since now all features have to be asked for that version.
Though I think you must be too busy to make this now since you must be making new presents for us with your magic programming. Again thanks to share your knowledge with us :)
