Continuing discussion from #1357908: panels or context for layouts, whether we should use Context or Panels for layout management.

Must haves:
- Ability to disable layout management for artist role (i.e. turn off Panels and Views UI)
- Has a clean upgrade path to Drupal 8
- Safe fallbacks if turned off completely.

This would be a great candidate for implementing via an add-on Feature or App. Ideally it would come bundled with a theme designed to work well with it...i.e. a pre-configured Omega theme + Context bundle.

we are talking about 2 separate features both of which would provide advanced layout capabilities . Both would extend al base features.

The following functionality should be a must have if the core users/customers are still similar to what was stated in the original design document.

  • Cross-browser, responsive layouts and several responsive image styles are included to aid in site building and allow your site to work seamlessly on mobile devices.
  • In-Place Page Building - Drag and drop customization of pages and nodes.
  • Easily switch layouts, modify Views and Panels settings, change styles
  • Add widgets to display text, links, audio players, photo galleries and slide-shows, video, events calendar, and more.

The Flux theme may contain some panel layouts in the near future, but that's as far as support will go for D7.
