Use image-cache preset to change the preview image

Having found the article http://drupal.org/node/943442 I've been wondering if it would be possible to use an image-cache preset to change the size of the image that is shown in the previewer. Often when you upload high quality images a lot of the image does fit in the preview and just putting a max width on it in CSS as suggested here http://drupal.org/node/291470 doesn't really cut the mustard.

No particular need to do this in a config screen I'm happy overriding a template file, that would be fine - does anyone know if this is possible or if its on a roadmap?
