Google suggests to create Sitemaps for multilingual websites like this:

It would be nice, to have this in XML sitemap.

ajventure CreditAttribution: ajventure commentedThis is a problem for us as well. Are there any suggestions to amend this in the meantime, while we await the 2.1 version release?

Anonymous (not verified) CreditAttribution: Anonymous commentedI actually think this is quite important that a rel = "alternate" hreflang = "language-code" is quite important, since there is no indication whatsoever in the generated xmlsitemap as to what the language the content referenced in the sitemap is in. I think this should be added in both the dev version and the stable release of this module, please.

Cyclodex CreditAttribution: Cyclodex commentedI think this is a bit crazy to save this in a sitemap (when you have hundreds or even more nodes).
I suggest you to use i18n contrib module which has a sub module called hreflang and supports basic hreflang.
