When a file is uploaded, does it become a new node?

I upload a file through the filedepot gui and I dont see it in the content list?

I do see the file in the folder that I uploaded it too.
I do see the new folders in the content list that I had created with the filedepot gui.

It is an attachment to a node.

After uploading a file with the filedepot/new file/ in the gui
I do not see the files in the content list.

Only the filedepot folders will show up in the content list - the files are attachments to the folders - not a new node themselves - so they do not show up.
