We currently have some problems creating other installation profiles than NodeStream that uses the NodeStream tools. This is because we want to get all the modules from NodeStream using the NodeStream make file, and that means we need to download the NodeStream profile, and we are dependent on that profile being in the profiles directory to work.

Optimally you should be able to create an installation profile without the NodeStream profile altogether. A possibility is to add the make file containing the modules to ns_core instead of NodeStream. This would allow you to create your own installation profiles without using the NodeStream profile at all. One possible side effect is that it might not work with drush drupal-org make.

I commited this to both NodeStream and NS Core and the concept works great. Let's wait and see what the d.o packaging script thinks about this =)
