romoving or emptying is surely appreciated.

Thanks for pointing this out. I see the following from git branch -a:

* master
  remotes/origin/6.x-1.x
  remotes/origin/7.x-2.x
  remotes/origin/HEAD -> origin/master
  remotes/origin/master

Is the HEAD causing the issue?
